Celebrating Apprenticeship Success

As we mark National Apprenticeship Week, we take the opportunity to reflect on the achievements of two valued team members at Charlies Ag & Turf – Jack Watkin, Parts Manager, and Sean Murphy, Turf Service Manager.

In 2015, when we operated solely as a John Deere turf dealer, we welcomed two young apprentices onto the John Deere Apprenticeship Program in Parts and Turf Technician roles. Their training combined hands-on experience at our dealership with block-release study weeks at the John Deere Training Centre in Nottingham, spanning two to three years.

Since successfully completing their apprenticeships in 2018 with Sean achieving apprentice of the year, Jack and Sean have both excelled within the company. Jack was appointed Parts Manager in 2021, while Sean stepped into the role of Turf Service Manager in 2022. Today, they collectively oversee 15 team members, playing a vital role in the success and efficiency of their respective departments.

Their journeys are a testament to the opportunities an apprenticeship can provide in the turf and agricultural machinery industry. We currently have 3 apprentices on the John Deere programme. If you are considering a career in this field, we would love to hear from you.
